Afforestation is the process of planting trees on barren or degraded land is one of the most effective natural solutions for reducing the intensity of heat waves. Trees provide shade, absorb carbon dioxide, and release water vapor through transpiration, which cools the surrounding air and helps regulate local temperatures. Large-scale afforestation also reduces the urban heat island effect, improves air quality, conserves soil moisture, and enhances rainfall patterns. By increasing green cover, afforestation creates a cooler and healthier environment, making communities more resilient to extreme summer heat while supporting biodiversity and combating climate change.
